A Celebration of John Olsen
It’s always a pleasure when John Olsen comes to stay at The Olsen but the other week we were treated to something a little extraordinary. John Olsen, in town to open his The You Beaut Country exhibition at The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia — an exhibition where Art Series Hotel Group are proud partners — joined us at an intimate lunch held in his honour in the John Olsen penthouse.
It provided a fantastic opportunity to celebrate all of his achievements, as we raised our glasses to his incredible career to date. There was an eclectic mix of guests from Olsen’s own family, including three generations of Olsen’s in attendance, to members of the Art Series family, including our owners, partners and supporters.
From the head of the table John spoke of the honour he feels in being a part of the Art Series family. He reminded us that, “to be an Australian is to be an explorer” and this is something that is most definitely evident in his works seen at the exhibition, which is open until February 2017.
Coinciding with the lunch was the launch of Kip & Co’s exquisite new resin and solid brass cutlery range, adding an extra sparkle to the table, paired back beautifully with the bright florals and hand painted place settings.
While it is not every day we get to sit down to lunch with one of Australia’s finest artists, it is certainly an experience that will not be forgotten by all who attended. After all, John Olsen emanates a certain joie de vivre and warmth that is simply unforgettable.
