Federation Square Melbourne
Once dismissed as one of the world’s ugliest buildings, Federation Square has silenced its critics by becoming one of the most popular tourist attractions in Melbourne.
60 million people have flocked to this cubic cultural hub since its opening in 2002, largely due to the huge number of events that take place there - and with over 2000 a year, there’s plenty to choose from. Each year the square hosts selected events from the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, Melbourne Writer’s Festival and the Loreal Melbourne Fashion Festival. There is also a range of public art instillations that take place throughout the year.
Federation Square (or Fed Square as it is affectionately known) is also a popular place to watch the AFL Grand Final on the big screen or the New Year’s celebrations and fireworks on the Yarra River. As well as annual events, Federation Square is a permanent home to ACMI (the Australian Centre for the Moving Image), and the NGV’s Ian Potter Centre for Australian art.
The Cullen offers luxury Melbourne accommodation a short tram ride away from Federation Square. This five-star Melbourne hotel offers luxury suites adorned with original artwork by famed artist Adam Cullen. The Cullen is situated on Commercial road, within walking distance of premier shopping districts Greville Street and Chapel Street.
