We're getting ready to pop the champagne as we count down to Friday 16th September, when doors will open to our latest addition to the family and the first Art Series hotel in Brisbane, The Johnson. To give you an insight into the Michael Johnson artwork selected for the hotel, we'd like to introduce our two key Brisbane-based curators, Sarah Barron and Amy-Clare McCarthy.

Sarah is currently a freelance Curator, the Education Program Officer at Queensland Uuniversity of Technology Art Museum and William Robinson Gallery, and Art Gallery Assistant at Logan Art Gallery.

For the past three years, Sarah has been a board member of Flying Arts Alliance Inc. as well as a workshop facilitator with the touring artist program. She has actively engaged with the arts sector since 2005 in a range of capacities, with recent roles including Gallery Assistant at FireWorks Gallery and Assistant Curator at Boxcopy Contemporary Art Space.

In 2013 Sarah completed a 12 month internship at QUT Art Museum and a curatorial work placement in the International Contemporary Art department at the Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art. Sarah graduated with first class honours from a Bachelor of Creative Industries (Honours), Interdisciplinary degree, at the Queensland University of Technology, in 2013.

Sarah says working at The Johnson as one of the curators is an exciting role and what she loves most is facilitating opportunities for others to make their own discoveries that enhance their enjoyment and appreciation of Michael's work.

"I greatly admire Michael Johnson's work - his pieces are rich in colour, bold and alive with energy. You can lose yourself in his paintings and the longer you spend with them the more rewarding the experience," says Sarah.

Amy-Clare is the Exhibition Program Curator at Metro Arts Brisbane, where she supports contemporary artists to develop new work for presentation in their heritage listed gallery space. She has formerly worked with the Exhibitions team at the State Library of Queensland and in 2011-12 interned with leading New York contemporary art institutes MoMA PS1 and e-flux.

As an independent curator Amy-Clare has worked on exhibitions for Boxcopy Contemporary Artspace, Queensland University of Technology’s Creative Industries Precinct, and Firstdraft. She has also curated exhibitions while a co-director of Brisbane artist-run-initiative Current Projects. Essays on artists written by Amy-Clare have been published by Griffith University Art Gallery, FELTspace, and Inhouse ARI. She has also written exhibition reviews published in Runway, Un Magazine and The Maximilian
