Three weeks into Desert Walk for Dialysis and Ken Mcgregor has walked over 800km through the Western Desert, where he has been visiting remote communities from Alice Springs through to his final destination of Kiwirrkurra. Ken is sharing the story of his plight to raise over $100,000 for Aboriginal communities trying to combat diabetes and kidney failure. The much needed funds will be used to help cover the operating costs of a mobile dialysis unit which will deliver much needed treatment to the communities of the Western Desert.
The mobile dialysis bus will be crucial in keeping the Aboriginal communities of the Western Desert connected with their families, as patients often have to travel to the Purple House in Alice Springs to receive the life saving treatments. The bus will provide an opportunity to return dialysis patients to country, to be with the community and to help it grow and prosper for future generations.
This week Ken was welcomed by the community of Mt Liebig, greeted by the smiles of the children as he walked into town.
