The Royal Botanical Gardens

Located within walking distance of The Blackman, the Royal Botanical Gardens are one of Melbourne’s most popular tourist attractions and home to more than 50,000 plants spread across rolling hills and the tranquil Ornamental Lake. As well as housing a diverse collection of plant life, the 36 hectares of the Botanic Gardens have also attracted a wide range of fauna, including flying foxes, frogs, possums and many species of birds. The Royal Botanic Gardens offers a variety of tours and year-round events, the most famous being the Moonlight Cinema that runs in the evenings throughout summer, but it is also the perfect place to take along a picnic or a good book and relax.

Albert Park Lake and Golf Course
Once a series of lagoons, the 225 hectares of Albert Park are a paradise for sports enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The Blackman sits alongside Albert Park and has expansive views of the lake, which is home to an 18-hole golf course, a driving range, and the recently constructed Melbourne Sports and Aquatic centre. In addition to this a series of walking and cycling trails criss-cross the park. The picturesque Albert Park Lake in the centre of the park is a natural sanctuary for over 120 species of birdlife including ducks, swans, herons, ibis and even the occasional pelican. Parks Victoria host guided walks around the 5km edge of the lake and there are a range of boats for hire.

St Kilda Beach and Luna Park
The St Kilda esplanade is home to a distinct cafe culture, quirky shops, bars, and an assortment of live music venues. The sandy beaches of the foreshore, complete with sea-baths, provide a picturesque setting for one of Melbourne’s most fashionable suburbs. Adding to the bohemian vibe is the Esplanade Market, an institution which has run every Sunday since 1970. From 10am to 5pm, 150 local talent artisans offer a range of contemporary arts and crafts. It is the perfect place to snag something truly unique. Next to the Esplanade, the giant laughing face that forms the opening of Luna Park has become symbolic of St Kilda. Inside, Luna Park’s thrill rides, including the Pharaoh’s Curse, Twin Dragons, the Enterprise and Coney Island Top Drop will have you gripping the edge of your seat.

Queen Victoria Market

The Arts Centre

Just a short tram ride from The Blackman, the Melbourne Arts Centre is not only the cultural centre of the city but one of the largest performing arts centres in the world. Beneath the iconic spire the centre houses several theatres, staging performances of classical ballet, modern dance, opera, drama and a wide range of music from local and international artists. Offstage, The Arts Centre is home to an impressive collection of memorabilia documenting the history of performing arts in Australia. The centres art collection is also truly unique, with pieces by some of Australia’s greats including John Olsen, Arthur Boyd and Roger Kemp plus many more. The many different works line the halls of the different performance spaces and are free to visit.
